Super-Ego Relations
Relationships of respect for one another.
Help in difficult situations, but quarrels in easy situations. They can yell at each other, voice complaints, but inside they don't really feel bad toward that person—they just vent and calm down. And if there's a serious problem, they will help each other. These are relationships that really help to navigate life's difficulties. But in a simple, calm life, they turn out to be worse.
Over time, there's a desire to learn something the other can do but you cannot. And it's mutual. You begin to see the difference—that you are not alike—and you start to make use of that difference. Your superego gives you useful information or nudges you, resulting in mutual training of each other's role functions. Eventually, they become internalized.
